Leidos Flight service is letting you know that, EasyActivate™, EasyClose™ and Close Reminder services will automatically be turned on for all registered users of www.1800wxbrief.com.

Starting from the top, flight plans can be defined as the following: “In the United States and Canada, when an aircraft is crossing the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), either an IFR or a special type of VFR flight plan called a DVFR (Defense VFR) flight plan must be filed. For IFR flights, flight plans are used by air traffic control to initiate tracking and routing services.” FAA regulations, or the Flight Aviation Administration states, “In the US you need to file a flight plan for the following flights: IFR flights. Defense VFR Flights, which are required to fly in the ADIZ that is off the coast of the US (an IFR flight plan may also be used). Some TFR's only allow air traffic to fly within their boundaries if they are on an IFR or VFR flight plan.” If you are enrolled in our flight school here in Baltimore, these are all topics of discussion you will learn extensively throughout your training.

The function part of these Leidos Flight services included letting you activate or close a VFR flight plan simply by clicking a link in an email or text message sent to you 30 minutes before departure and arrival. These actions are recorded and included in your pilot history. Reminders are sent when a VFR flight plan is not closed within 20 minutes of the expected arrival time. These services will be automatically applied to all your VFR flight plans, regardless of whether you file via phone call or online. How awesome is that?!

We encourage and appreciate your use of EasyActivate™, EasyClose™ and Close Reminder services. Middle River Aviation pilots and instructors all depend greatly on these wonderful tools and urge all our students to follow on that same path with technology tools for their flights. Besides convenience and being a great way to avoid the dreaded “forgot to close my flight plan”, electronic activation and closure frees up inflight frequencies and helps us reduce wait times for contacts that really need the expertise of a Flight Service specialist.
